I've had two really good wines over the past week or so. The first, Terredora's Fiano Di Avellino 2006, was all fruit and freshness, and would be a great wine for sipping outdoors in the garden with a light salad. I've tried a number of Terredora wines and they are always reliable and the grapes just that little bit different from the usual Italian varieties. This particular wine won a silver medal in this year's International Wine Challenge.
The second, Chapoutier's 2004 Banyuls, I bought to taste in preparation for my Diploma fortifieds exam and was like drinking lots of blackcurrant Ribena, albeit with great acidity and a good dose of alcohol. And as it was my birthday recently and Janet had made me a lovely chocolate cake, I can confirm that a good Banyuls really does go well with chocolate.
