I attended the UK launch of the wines of Prosecco Follador, a family owned business that has been making wines since the 18th century. They mainly produce proseccos and frizzantes but have white and red also. Although these have been marketed elsewhere in Europe this is their first foray into the UK market. With consumers seeming to enjoy prosecco and most retailers stocking at least one brand, Follador are entering an established but growing market. This is good timing on their part although to stand out from the rest they will need to find a way to differentiate themselves.
They have a range of proseccos and frizzantes. The "Prestige" are all DOCG wines while the "Classic" are all DOC. Confusingly also the "Frizzante" is labelled a prosecco DOC. As I discussed with them at the launch party however they accept that they need to do some work on the labelling to differentiate the wines for the UK consumer. I enjoyed the wines and found each wine to be subtly different from the next, ideal for pairing with food or drinking on their own.I wish them luck with their UK launch and will be interested to see where their wines end up being being sold .
